Studio headshot of a smiling person with short, textured wavy blonde-and-brown hair, vibrant blue-and-pink eyeglass frames, and a nose ring. They are wearing a collared, short-sleeved bright red shirt, posed against a textured, light beige wall.

Shanks, Assistant Professor of Performance, Theater and Dance, is the inaugural Lunder Institute Faculty Fellow. Her work draws on visual and performance studies, queer theory, and critical race studies, and postcolonial theory to demonstrate how performance and performative art can expose the colonialist structures and histories embedded within arts institutions and contemporary art.
