Sketch on sheet of paper with visible perforation marks along the left edge. On the left, a man wearing a fedora and a suit jacket leans forward, focusing on a newspaper held in his hands. To his right, the partial figures of other commuters are suggested, including the torso of a person in a double-breasted coat and a hand gripping a vertical subway pole in the background.

Luke Johnson is a Minnesota-born artist, working in print media, drawing, and durational engagements within collections. In his work, Johnson draws from the stories and unintended afterlives of archival materials, responding to the ways objects embody, or fail to embody, their history and intent. He received his BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and his MFA from the University of Alberta. He has taught printmaking, drawing, and related courses at the University of Alberta and Red Deer Polytechnic, and is currently a visiting assistant professor of art at Colby College in Waterville, Maine.
