Terry Winters Prints 1999–2014

December 18, 2014 - March 1, 2015

Staatliche Graphische Sammlung München/Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich, Germany

American painter Terry Winters has expanded the concerns of abstract art, beginning with botanically inspired images and going on to explore biological processes and mathematical systems. Richly associative and visionary in scope, his art addresses the “interaction between information and imagination.” Printmaking has been central to Winters’s process-based practice since 1982, and he has created experimental, innovative works in the full range of print techniques, generating abundant reciprocal relationships to his paintings and drawings. Organized in collaboration with the Colby Museum, this exhibition at the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung München/Pinakothek der Moderne surveyed Winters prints 1999–2014 and was accompanied by a publication including every print Winters made since 1999, when the first volume of his print catalogue raisonné appeared. The exhibition traveled to the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebæk, Denmark, and was on view from June 18–August 30, 2015.
