An Exhibition of Art by the Faculty and Visiting Artists of the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture

July 1, 1961 - September 1, 1961

For sixteen summers major American artists have been coming to central Maine to teach and practice painting and sculpture. They have been called here to instruct students from leading art schools throughout the country at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. The fine tradition of art instruction which has evolved in this school is due to the high quality of its faculty and visiting artists. There are three types of instructors at the Skowhegan School: the permanent faculty, a group of selected seasonal artists, and a visiting artist each weekend. The artists whose works are shown in this exhibition represent a rich cross-section of American art and have all filled one or more of these roles at the Skowhegan school.
