Miller Library Brewster Room

Join us for a symposium on queer book arts at Colby College featuring two scholars, Melanie Holcomb and Aiden Bettine, who explore queer history and communities through illustrated books.

Holcomb, a curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, examines medieval art and archival materials from queer perspectives, while Bettine, an archivist and book artist at the University of Minnesota, creates zines that document and celebrate living queer communities.

Together, they will discuss their works, sharing insights on how picture books can address archival erasure and offer reparative queer scholarship. The event will encourage playful, transdisciplinary dialogue between their approaches, aiming to uncover new meanings and perspectives on queer history, archives, and book arts.

This program is co-sponsored by the Colby Libraries, Colby Art Department, and the Colby College Museum of Art.
