Join us for a free screening of Mary Cassatt: Painting the Modern Woman (2023, 1h 33m), a new feature-length documentary that introduces viewers to the Impressionist artist whose depictions of women demonstrated a major shift in the way women were depicted in art. Before the film, hear Elisa Germán, Lunder Curator of Works on Paper and Whistler Studies, discuss the etching by Cassatt currently on view at the museum and the artist’s surprising collaboration with Edgar Degas.
This event is free and open to all, but ticket reservation is encouraged. Reserve your tickets here.
This screening is inspired by the exhibition Surface Tension: Etchings from the Collection, which is on view till January 12, 2025, at the Colby College Museum of Art.
Frame by Frame is a collaborative program of the Colby College Museum of Art and the Maine Film Center. Film screenings are paired with speakers or programs that connect what we see on the big screen to what happens in the museum.
