For the modernist painter Martha Diamond and the Russian director Alexander Sukorov, time is a mirage that unfolds on an extravagant scale. Join us for a free screening of Russian Ark (2002, 1h 39m), a gauzy journey through Russian history, shot entirely within the State Hermitage Museum in a single take. The film will be preceded by an introduction from Colby Associate Professor of Russian Elena Monastireva-Ansdell.
This event is free and open to all, but ticket reservation is encouraged. Reserve your tickets here.
This screening is inspired by the exhibition Martha Diamond: Deep Time, which is on view until October 13, 2024 at the Colby College Museum of Art.
Frame by Frame is a collaborative program of the Colby College Museum of Art and the Maine Film Center. Film screenings are paired with speakers or programs that connect what we see on the big screen to what happens in the museum.
