Join the Colby College Museum of Art at our Joan Dignam Schmaltz Gallery of Art at the Paul J. Schupf Art Center to celebrate the joy of art and play during February’s Downtown Waterville First Friday.

This month, we’re celebrating the opening of Playscape: Contemporary Art from the Colby Museum’s Collection with an evening of self-guided gallery explorations, complimentary refreshments, and ample opportunities to be creative.

Activities:

  • 5:30 and 6:30 pm: Learn more and ask questions about the works on view while playing games with the exhibition curator, educators, and teaching artists from the Colby Museum.
  • 5–7 pm: Enjoy an art activity in the HUB. Draw playful animals inspired by Faye Moorhouse’s book How to Draw Animals for the Artistically Anxious
  • 5–7 pm: Sweets, appetizers, and refreshments from Holy Cannoli

If you’re able to, we’d love for you to bring along a new board game to the event. All donated games will go to families in need through the Maine Children’s Home.

First Fridays celebrate the vibrant creativity of Waterville by inviting people downtown to engage in multidisciplinary arts experiences. On the first Friday of every month, visit downtown Waterville to meet artists, participate in workshops, listen to live music, eat delicious local food, and come together as a community. To learn more, visit the Waterville Creates website.
