Maine Film Center, Paul J. Schupf Art Center, 93 Main St, Waterville

Join us for a free screening of Paris is Burning (1990, 1h 18m), a stunning documentary that chronicles the New York drag scene in the 1980s. Following the screening, hear from Aquarius Funkk, a Maine-raised performance artist who has been active in the drag/ballroom scene in Maine, across the country, and abroad. This screening is inspired by the exhibition Come Closer: Selections from the Collection, 1978-1994. It is on view until November 26th, 2023 at the Colby College Museum of Art.

Frame by Frame is a collaborative program of the Colby College Museum of Art and the Maine Film Center. Film screenings are paired with speakers or programs that connect what we see on the big screen to what happens in the museum.

This event is free and open to all; however, tickets are required. Please register here.
