Head of Falls, Downtown Waterville

Art in the Park is back! Once again, the Colby College Museum of Art joins forces with Waterville Creates and the Waterville Public Library to offer a summer of dynamic, creative programming featuring hands-on arts experiences for all.

Join us each Thursday at Head of Falls, downtown Waterville’s outdoor gathering space, adjacent to the historic Kennebec River, to enjoy a read-aloud picture book and create your own artwork based on the book or weekly theme. Bring a blanket or chair to get comfortable while listening and creating. Special guests will include practicing artists, local musicians, and area teachers!

This week, dive in and make your own fish print. Originally used by Japanese fisherman to record their catches, discover the time-honored printmaking technique called Gyotaku. Try out this celebrated form of art and nature printing by using a life-sized rubber fish to create your own aquatic-themed prints.

This week’s book is Beneath the Waves, by Lily Murray.

This program is free and open to all ages and levels of experience. In the event of rain, the event will be rescheduled or canceled.
