Colby College Museum of Art

Join the Colby College Museum of Art for our annual Community Day celebration!

Create your own works of art with the Common Threads Art Tent, engage with looking activities in our galleries, spend time in our summer exhibitions—Act of Sight: The Tsiaras Family Photography Collection, Sarah Cain: hand in hand, and Andrew Wyeth: Life and Death—as well as with the Picturing Our Community photography engagement project, and enjoy hands-on experiences planned by our Lunder Institute resident fellows. We’ll also have outdoor games, live music, and free refreshments from Stone Fox Farm Creamery ice cream and others, and other activities created by our community partners.

This event is free and open to all and is supported by Friends of Art.

ART-MAKING

A Place for All of Us: Join artists Elizabeth Jabar, Colleen Kinsella, and Evelyn Wong in the Future Mothers tent for screen printing posters, bookmaking, and stamping! At this Waterville Creates activity, all are invited to gather, talk, and create art in response to questions about this place where we live and connect with others.

          Noon–4 p.m. | Front Lawn, Art Tents

Storytelling with Textiles: Join the Lunder Institute for American Art Residential Fellow, Bryana Bibbs, for this drop-in art activity. Inspired by Bibbs’ textile arts practice and Faith Ringgold’s, Coming to the Road Jones #4: Under a Blood Red Sky, weave with your personal handwritten or illustrated stories along with various yarns, fabrics, and more.

Noon–4 p.m. | Front Lawn, Museum Art Tent

Picturing Your Community Photography Project: Borrow an instant camera or use your phone  to photograph friends and family in Sarah Cain’s installation, hand in hand. Gain photography inspiration from Act of Sight: The Tsiaras Family Photography Collection, and take some time to peruse photographs that have become part of this community project, found in photo albums on the lobby tables. Take photos home, or leave them with us so we can add them to our public displays.
