Art in the Park is back! Once again, the Colby College Museum of Art joins forces with Waterville Creates and the Waterville Public Library to offer a summer of dynamic, creative programming featuring hands-on arts experiences for all.
Join us each Thursday at Head of Falls, downtown Waterville’s outdoor gathering space, adjacent to the historic Kennebec River, to enjoy a read-aloud picture book and create your own artwork based on the book or weekly theme. Bring a blanket or chair to get comfortable while listening and creating. Special guests will include practicing artists, local musicians, and area teachers!
This week, create painting using mess-free tempera paint sticks that celebrates everyday life, inspired by the art of author-illustrator Ashley Bryan. The museum recently acquired six of Bryan’s paintings— vibrant and colorful images of people, nature, and still life arrangements that celebrate the beauty in everyday life.
This week’s book is Ashley Bryan’s ABC of African American Poetry.
This program is free and open to all ages and levels of experience. In the event of rain, the event will be rescheduled or canceled.
