UPDATE: Our Summer Art Boxes have now sold out. Please check back for future editions of our Art Boxes, and contact Abigail Newkirk at [email protected] with any questions.
Keep your school age kids creative this summer by signing up to receive a free Art Box from the Colby College Museum of Art!
Each Summer Art Box includes all the supplies and instructions for three art-making activities inspired by one of our new exhibitions. The Colby Museum will deliver 50 of each box—available on a first-come, first-served basis—to local homes by Monday, August 2nd. They can be picked up at Community Day at the Colby Museum on July 31st. Limit two per household. If there are more than two children in the home, boxes can be addressed to multiple names.
Box #1 – Printmaking
Explore the art of printmaking, just like artist Mary Cassatt did in 1879-80. Inspired by Inside Out: The Prints of Mary Cassatt, this Art Box will walk your young artists through the printmaking process…from mark-making to final project. Designed for grades 4-8.
Box # 2 – Variations
In Bob Thompson: This House is Mine, artist Bob Thompson created what he called “variations,” taking an existing work of art and transforming the style, technique, and content. These variations tell a new, different, more complex, or more personal story. In this box your artist will experiment with different variations as they create their own works of art. Designed for grades 9-12.
