The Colby Museum of Art will raffle three pairs of tickets (a $44–$55 value) for six lucky guests to participate in this two-day training. Be sure to attend one of the following programs to enter the raffle: Spring Open House, on Thursday, February 20th; The Lifeboat (1944) screening on Monday, March 2nd; or the Lifeboat (2018) screening on Monday, March 16th. Winners will be notified via email on Wednesday, April 1. Guests are responsible for their own transportation to the Maine Maritime Museum.

Taught by members of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, this course is ideal for those who enjoy boating but are not often at the helm. Because emergencies can and do occur on the water, any passenger may find themselves suddenly in command. How can you get help? How can you get to shore? What can you do if boating mishaps arise? This course covers some essential boating information about what to do in such situations. Topics include pre-underway planning, developing situational awareness, understanding how boats handle, VHF radio introduction including how to get help in an emergency, Coast Guard required safety equipment and regulations, and accident assessment and reporting.

All required materials are included in the course fee.

This raffle is part of Let Art Inspire, the Colby Museum’s wellness initiative, in connection with exhibition Hew Locke: Here’s the Thing.
