Community Tulip Planting

Saturday, October 12, 2019,

Waterville, Maine

In support of Mental Health Awareness week, join Waterville Creates!, Kennebec Behavioral Health, and the Yellow Tulip Project as we work together with FEDCO and Johnny’s Selected Seeds to plant hope gardens at the River Walk at Head of Falls, Veterans Park, and the Bill + Joan Alfond Main Street Commons in downtown Waterville. Planting will begin at the River Walk at 2pm and finish at 4pm at Veterans Park. Hot cocoa, cider, and an opening ceremony led by Yellow Tulip Project ambassador Abi Bloom will take place at Veterans Park.

The Yellow Tulip Project is a Maine based non-profit organization whose mission is to diminish the stigma of mental illness while building a supportive community combining youth and community leaders. The goal is to remove the stigma associated with mental illness and the Yellow Tulip Project is fiercely devoted to making this aspiration a reality.

There will be additional privately-owned planting locations throughout the city and lots of tulips to enjoy in spring! Associated community wellness events are slated for May when the tulips are in full bloom.

Participating organizations include: Waterville High School, Waterville Parks + Recreation, Hardy Girls/Healthy Women, The Family Enrichment Council, The Waterville Public Library, Maine General Hospital, Johnny’s Selected Seeds, FEDCO Bulbs, Colby College Museum of Art, Waterville Peer Support Center, and the Universalist Unitarian Church.
