This program delves into themes of waterways, environment, and the impact of climate change on indigenous culture with conversation in the galleries and on the Messalonskee River. We’ll begin at the Museum with a guided gallery experience of Wíwənikan… the beauty we carry, followed by a light lunch, before proceeding to the canoe launch site. The 2 ½-hour canoe trip will be guided by Barry Dana, Penobscot artist in the Wíwənikan… the beauty we carry exhibition currently on view. This program is designed for ages 18+, but children ages 7+ may attend if accompanied by an adult.

Mild/Medium exertion level: Participants will paddle two miles on flat water, and should be comfortable with river/water environments.

This program is part of the Museum’s wellness initiative, Let the Art Inspire, which includes a variety of programs that connect mind, body, and art in innovative ways.
