In collaboration with Maine Craft Weekend, the Colby College Museum of Art will provide additional tours and activities related to the Wíwənikan…the beauty we carry exhibition featuring contemporary art by basketmakers, canoe makers, carvers, painters, and beadworkers of the First Nations people of what is now Maine and Maritime Canada. All tours and activities are free and open to the public. For more information on all of the statewide events, visit mainecraftweekend.org.

These events are part of a Museum initiative, Wíwənikan…the beauty we carry: a week of film, programs, demonstrations, and talks, which takes place from Oct. 5–11 at the Museum and various locations on campus and in the community.

10 am–noon: Art Cart activities will be available in the Wíwənikanthe beauty we carry exhibit. Drop by to find looking activities that children and their caregivers can use to learn more about works of art by Wabanaki artists, as well as materials to touch, books to read, sketching materials, and resources to take home. Designed for ages 4+.

1–2 pm: Public guided tour led by Theresa Secord; a Penobscot artist in, and curatorial advisor to, Wíwənikan…the beauty we carry.

2–3 pm: Saturday Spotlight Tour, led by a Colby College Museum of Art docent, featuring works from Wíwənikan…the beauty we carry and the Museum’s permanent collection.
