In conjunction with the exhibition Zanele Muholi: Sonymama Namayama, Hail the Dark Lioness at the Colby Museum, the Lunder Institute for American Art will host dance students from Spelman College at Colby College. During their visit, the Spelman College dancers will engage with students in “Critical Race Feminisms and Tap Dance,” a course by Professor Sonja M. Thomas, Associate Professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. This program aims to consider dance and performance as ways of engaging with history, self-expression, and identity. It will culminate in a performance by the Spelman College dance students on April 13 at 2 pm. Free and open to the public, the performance will take place in the Muholi exhibition. Space is limited.
Zanele Muholi: Sonymama Namayama, Hail the Dark Lioness is organized by Autograph, London, and curated by Renée Mussai. Prior to its presentation at the Colby Museum, the exhibition appeared at the Spelman College Museum of Art in Atlanta.
