Common Street Arts

Art Stories, opening Thursday June 4th at 5pm through Sunday June 7th at CSA gallery in downtown Waterville is a product of a six week workshop with a small group of area high school students conducted by visiting artist Shirel Horovitz.

Shirel lives and works in Tel Aviv, Israel and has exhibited in major galleries and art festivals. Since her arrival in April, the old Ken-a-set store became her studio. Students joined Shirel exploring their relationship to the space, materials, texts, and images. Working together in the studio they created their own unique world made up of the mundane materials that in regular life construct a space of sales and merchandise. In this project, Horovitz extends her own practice to explore what happens when the boundaries between studio and classroom, artist and students, are replaced in favor of a shared non-hierarchical working space.

This project and exhibition are sponsored by Colby Museum, Waterville Creates! and the CSA gallery.
