Recent Acquisitions: April 2015

The Museum is pleased to announce a selection of its recent acquisitions. Artist Terry Winters, whose complete prints are represented in the collection, gave the museum Atmospheres (2014), a series of twelve monumental screenprints produced on the occasion of his exhibition at the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung München, to which the Colby Museum was the primary lender. These works join the nearly 350 works by Winters in the Colby Museum’s collection. Through the support of Lindsay Leard Coolidge ’78 Print Acquisition Fund, the Museum acquired six works from Allan McCollum’s series Lands of Shadow and Substance (2014), which represents mysterious and highly abstracted views of the landscape paintings that the artist found in episodes of the Twilight Zone. The Museum has also received four photographs by Tommy Brown that brilliantly capture the spirit of small town life. Two of these photographs are gifts from Museum supporter, Paul J. Schupf, and two are gifts from the artist. Paintings by Alex Katz and Charles DuBack, works on paper by Faith Ringgold, Helmut Federle, John Zurier, a sculpture by Martin Puryear, and a photograph by Mexican artist Teresa Margolles also comprise this group of recent acquisitions.

PLEASE NOTE: Not all works in the Colby Museum collection are on view at any given time. If you have a question about works on view, please call 207-859-5600 prior to visiting.
