Fall Open House 2014
On September 4, the Colby College Museum of Art hosted their second annual Fall Open House celebration. It is a way to kick off the fall season in style, to welcome Colby students, faculty and staff back to campus, to share with everyone the special exhibitions of the moment. For this particular Open House event, we were celebrating the exhibitions “Bernard Langlais” and “Lois Dodd: Cultivating Vision.” We were thrilled to feature Lois Dodd herself. If you missed it, don’t worry! The audio podcast of her talk (in conversation with the curator of the exhibition) will soon be available on the Museum’s website, under the “Multimedia” tab. We were also thrilled to welcome the Maine-based musical duo Edith & Bennett back to the Museum for a reprisal of their stunning performance from the summer’s Community Day event, “Works of Song and Art.” From sing-alongs to Swedish cattle calls, from gorgeous Scandinavian fiddle tunes to heartwarming anecdotes and poetic recitations, Edith and Bennett drew out certain aspects of works by Dodd and Langlais in ekphrastic style, leading our audiences on a Pied-Piper-esque tour through the galleries. In short, it was a magical evening, and we hope this short film helps to convey the essence of this great moment! Thank you to Peter Quayle for this gorgeous video.
